The Intriguing Influences Behind Our AW16 Collection
The latest Troubadour collection takes our design philosophy – rooted in function and performance – to a new level. Handcrafted in vegetable-tanned Italian leather and exquisite fabrics, these new products showcase practical, lightweight materials and technical construction, while maintaining Troubadour’s signature clean, modern aesthetic.
As Samantha Jacob, Troubadour Design Director, explains: “The concept of bringing functionality to the fore is partly inspired by Todd McLellan’s photographic project, Things Come Apart, which explores everyday items by presenting their components as deconstructed elements, laid out in the style of assembly diagrams.”
For example, the new Deconstructed Tote brings elements that are typically hidden inside a bag – such as a beautiful folded-based construction – to the outside of the piece. Likewise, the new Zip Wallet features exterior card slots and a key loop that can be worn inside or outside the wallet, with ample room inside for banknotes, identification, further cards and coins.
Minimalist architecture – such as the National Theatre in London – also serves as a key inspiration, especially in terms of fabrication. This led to the creation of new, elegant silhouettes based on clean design and the guiding vision that less achieves more.
An apparent simplicity of geometric form belies innovative construction techniques, with modern piping, raw-edge and painted-edge construction all featuring in the new collection. Chunky industrial zippers and rich new colours complete the picture.
